Why a school venture studio?
Every day headlines are highlighting the growing sense that traditional education is broken. In the wake of school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a widespread sense in the United States that education and youth are in crisis.
We prefer to let the self-proclaimed education experts, talking heads, and media debate the state of education. As parents, we need one thing: options. What do I do if my kids don’t like school? What if the programs are ineffective? What if I just want something to be better for my child? If I am a parent who believes that our country’s current approach to education is broken and I want something substantially different for my child, my options are very limited.
No matter my issue with my children’s school, to make a school change I have to move, struggle to pay for a private school, or hope to get lucky in a charter school lottery. Those are not real options as the barriers to change are just too damn high. No wonder schools are in a crisis – parents don’t have any real options, and schools flex their muscles like a monopoly.
The fastest, most impactful way to change education is to open a new school that provides families with a radically different educational experience. However, many education entrepreneurs and investors do not pursue this path because they:
Lack of the education expertise needed to establish a school
Do not have the time or desire to run the school themselves
Fear public failure
The first steps towards improvement begin with a choice. We want families to have real options on where to send their kids to school. Hallcraft is a carefully curated group of experts building high-quality, non-standard schools that reimagine what education could be. Hallcraft brings together those interested in supporting new education models, talented school leaders, and a solid operational playbook to create innovative, well-run schools.
Hallcraft bridges the gap between funders and great school leaders to grow the school ecosystem. There is significant value in using an experienced team to launch a group of schools, as it gives each institution access to resources and support that it otherwise would not have. This significantly cuts down on each school leader reinventing the wheel (potentially failing) when building their program from the ground up.
We give families a choice.
